The Golden Valley Cottage Pottery Courses are all about making functional pots for food.

Our life and work here, as a potter and painter are closely linked, the same creative processes of design, presentation and colour, go into planning a meal, setting the table or decorating a salad or a cake.I think it all begins in January with seed catalogues on the kitchen table, wondering which tomatoes to grow and planning a variety of fresh salad leaves that will be ready for picking at just the right time.

The cottage kitchen, with it’s big table, the trusty 1950’s oven and big Belfast sink is a place of happy efficiency full of the smells of baking and freshly cut herbs. With a focus on fresh ingredients, and vibrant colour, I use tried and tested recipes, collected over the years, cakes and savouries that can be adapted for different dietary requirements.

I’m usually the first person everyone sees, sometimes arriving a little apprehensive, but as they step into the garden or the colourful cottage kitchen there’s a visible relaxing and an excitement for the creative days to come.

Golden Valley Cottage provides a haven, a treat week where you can be well fed and focussed on your own creativity. It’s a joy to sit around the table with creative people from varied lives, different parts of the country, or overseas, brought together and sharing a love of clay, and of food!

We look forward to welcoming you.
